From Virginia to the UK to California
Angel Princess (formerly known as Cole Bleu) traveled to Liverpool from Virginia to study music. She quickly established herself in the alternative pop scene and performed at the Reading and Leeds Festival. She also supported P!NK and Gwen Stefani at BST Hyde Park in London and performed at The Great Escape Festival. Angel Princess now resides in Los Angeles where she continues to release new music and is building her international fanbase.

Angel Princess’ music, style, and personality are inseparable. She has created an extraordinary persona that is as familiar as it is unique. Angel Princess Talks About Music, Creativity, & Honesty
Should I still call you Cole, or are you completely Angel Princess now?
My real name is Cole, but I wanted a new persona. Angel Princess feels more confident than I ever am, and I wanted to become her fully! I never mind what people call me, though, as long as it’s one of my names.
What made you want to establish this new persona and musical era?
When I created Angel Princess, she had character traits that I strive to become. She’s confident, she’s chaotic and messy, but still very cohesive and smart with her thoughts and words. She’s loud, wears what she wants, and doesn’t give a single f*ck what people think. I think separating myself from who I am to become this new person has really helped me discover a new version of myself that I’m able to tap into.
Who is Angel Princess?
Angel Princess is messy, glittery, and she’s out till 4 a.m. in the morning in Los Angeles with her friends partying. Probably crying over boys in a club bathroom, but being larger than life and very free.
For as long as I’ve followed you, there’s always been something genuine at your core. How important is it to find that core and stay true?
I feel like I’ve gone through so many stages of trying to be like other artists or other people, and when I started to actually show up as myself and be completely unapologetic about it, people started to actually notice me and listen to what I had to say. And as cliché as it is, there really is only one you and that’s the version that’s gonna stand out the most.
Did you always want to be a performer?
I always wanted to be a performer ever since I was a little kid. My dad would teach me how to play guitar and piano when I was little, but I think I really wanted to perform when I learned how to write songs and tell stories. That’s the most important part of it all to me.
How did you get from Virginia to Los Angeles?
I left Virginia when I was 17 years old and I went straight to England. I was in a band for a while, and then I started my solo project. I then moved to Los Angeles because, honestly, I figured it’d be a bigger challenge. I love the UK so much, but I wanted to work really hard every day, and I felt like I wasn’t doing it there. This place has been very difficult to cut through, but it’s my favorite place to live.
What drives you? It doesn’t seem to be fame. There’s something else inside you.
Honestly, I’ve always felt like I was put on this earth to connect with people, and I think music is just the catalyst. I’m supposed to reach many and help them feel things. That’s why I love touring so much because I feel so connected to the people who care about the music.
Who are your role models or inspirations?
I’ve always looked up to people like Gwen Stefani and Madonna because they’re so unapologetically themselves and know what they want, and are powerhouse women. They’ve changed culture, not just music, and that’s definitely what I’m going to do.
You have some incredibly expressive moves. Were you ever a dancer?
Yes, I was a dancer for 12 years. I actually really wanted to be a choreographer when I was a teenager, but then I started playing in a band and I decided to quit dancing.
How many instruments do you play? Do you have any formal musical training?
I play guitar, piano, bass, etc. I can play drums too, but don’t count on me being the next Taylor Hawkins. I grew up classically trained, doing a lot of musical theater and vocal lessons starting around 10 years old. I wanted to be the best at a very young age, no matter what I was doing.
Are there any challenges you face when making music?
I mean, I don’t have a lot of gear because I don’t have the money to buy it. So making music can be a real challenge sometimes, and I have to get very creative. That’s why I can use the tools to make beats. [See above.]
What is your writing process like?
I usually write on my own. I usually start with a beat that I make and write some melodies over it. I love working in a studio too with other people, but I feel like I make the best stuff when I’m alone because I can be the most vulnerable with my lyricism.
Do you consider music a form of therapy?
It definitely is my therapy and how I get through things.
What can you tell us about your upcoming release, ‘COLLECTION 01?’ How did it come about?
Last year I got into a very bad accident. I nearly died. It was really scary, and I had to heal for about three months before I could fully walk again. When I got back to LA after healing, I came back to an empty apartment because I had just moved before the accident. With no boyfriend, because I had broken up with him right before the accident, and no job, because I had to quit my waitress gig after the accident occurred, I really didn’t know what I was looking for, and it was a really scary feeling. So I decided to go to Joshua Tree for three days by myself, and I made this whole record, COLLECTION 01. It’s all about the accident and relationships. It’s about not feeling like enough, and it’s about starting over again. It is very important to me because it’s the most real music that I have made. Every line in there is true; nothing is made up. And it’s very vulnerable because of it.
How much control do you have over the production and the final sound? Do you know what the produced song will sound like before it has been recorded?
Yes, I usually record all the music and make them demos, and I’ll have a producer clean them up. A lot of the stuff I produce on my own, though, and I’m very involved with the sounds and where it all stems from. That’s my favorite part of it all.
Which was the hardest song to complete for this project?
I think the hardest song to complete was the last song, entitled “Lucky Strike.” It’s all about the accident and feeling like maybe I should’ve died but I didn’t. It’s very emotional. It’s very vulnerable, but it’s exactly how I felt in that moment.
What do you hope people get out of your music?
I want girls who feel like they’re not enough, or they’re stuck in limbo, or they’re in this lingering love to have music to listen to that resonates with that feeling. I know a lot about what it feels like to not have someone want you when it feels like they do, and you’re constantly in this push and pull relationship. It’s a lot of lingering. I want girls to find it and hopefully it helps them through those feelings.
Who are your favorite artists and bands?
My favorite band of all time is The 1975, and I’m not ashamed to say it. Matty Healy is the coolest, and I love his lyrics. But other artists that are my favorite definitely are Britney Spears, Cyndi Lauper, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, just strong female powerhouses that know how to work a stage.
You have impressive strength and confidence. Is your gender important to you? How does it impact your identity, your creativity, and your life?
You know, I feel like being a woman, especially in this industry, you’re kind of an underdog sometimes and people always underestimate you, and I feel like I’m constantly fighting that urge to prove something. But you just have to be confident. You just have to believe in yourself. You just have to wake up every day and know that you’re worth it and be the strong, independent woman that you can be, and hopefully other people will see that. That’s all I would wanna show people and young girls is that they can be who they wanna be and they can be if they’re just confident.
What advice do you have for someone who wants to do what you do?
Just start! Don’t wait for anyone’s approval. Don’t wait to have certain gear. Don’t wait to have a producer. Don’t wait to have a photographer. Just figure out how to get your sh*t out there. Nothing will happen for you until you start. Make the music and do what feels right to you, and if it’s authentic, people will come and find you, and you will gain that following.
Angel Princess’ ‘COLLECTION 01’: What to Expect
From the tracks she’s already released, Angel Princess’ upcoming debut, COLLECTION 01, promises to be a bold and honest set of songs that live where the “fashion, music, friendship, romance, and the beautiful messiness of your twenties all collide.” Angel Princess takes those intimate and sometimes difficult situationships and infuses them with upbeat vibes to create intoxicating late-night anthems that you can belt out with your besties.
In July, she premiered a wonderfully fun bop about toxic cycles called “SHOES.” The song is insanely catchy, and it makes you feel amazingly free and hopeful, despite its not-so-pleasant subject matter.
She followed up in August with a song that explores betrayal, heartbreak, and insecurities. “DO YOU MISS ME?” is a track that straddles vulnerability and resilience. Sometimes, when you’ve been hurt so deeply, the best thing you can do is sing about the pain. This cathartic, nostalgia-tinged tune gives you fortitude to keep moving forward after finding out.
According to Angel Princess, her most recently released track, “10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU,” is about “that person you’re not technically dating, but somehow have a million reasons to be mad at. You hate the way he texts you, you hate the way he disappears, you hate how he makes you feel like you’re losing your mind — but then you remember the way he looks at you and suddenly none of it matters.” It’s a love song disguised as a hate song. The exuberant chorus will have you dancing in the streets.
COLLECTION 01 is the kind of release that gets an artist noticed in a big way. Angel Princess is entering her new era with a savage swagger. She’s an artist to watch as she hits her stride and gives a voice to her generation, letting girls know they don’t have to settle for lingering love.
