Fan Expo Philadelphia: dates, location, and first 9 confirmed celebrity appearances

Who (besides you) is coming to Fan Expo Philadelphia ’24 ?

There’s a magic that happens when you attend a genre conference. You get to meet your heroes, take pictures, get autographs, attend panels, learn about the stuff that fuels your imagination, partake in cosplay, commission original artwork, buy one-of-a-kind collectables, and so much more. But even better, when you meet someone, you already know you are going to hit it off because it’s obvious you share the same interests. A Fan Expo is a special weekend place to bond and make lasting memories. That’s why people come back again and again and again.

This year, the Fan Expo Philadelphia event returns to the Pennsylvania Convention Center. It will be held from Friday, May 3 to Sunday, May 5.

First 9 confirmed celebrity appearances

While the list of celebrities will grow as the expo gets closer, here are the first nine to confirm.

His claim to fame might be playing A.C. Slater on Saved by the Bell, but Mario Lopez has had over 100 other roles in film and TV. Plus, he’s been in over 1,000 episodes of Access Hollywood. Before landing his career-defining job, Lopez was a dancer and a drummer on Kids Incorporated.

If you are a Gilmore Girls fan, to you, Sean Gunn is Kirk Gleason. If you are a fan of Marvel, then you know him as Kraglin from Guardians of the Galaxy. However, if you are a true nerd, then you might know James’ brother also played Rocket Raccoon — though you never heard him talk, he was just going through the motions, so to speak.

Felicia Day is a life goal. Her resume includes such iconic shows as Mystery Science Theater 3000, Supernatural, The Guild, Eureka, and, of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And if you want to fawn over her accomplishments a little more, not only was Day valedictorian when she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a double major, but she is a professional-level violinist, as well.

Ben McKenzie has had an impressive career that covers everything from teen angst to American crime dramas to comic book heroes. He has starred in The O.C., Southland, and Gotham. McKenzie has the distinction of being the only actor who has played both Batman and Commissioner Gordon.

Holly Marie Combs amassed a large and loyal following while playing the heroic witch, Piper Halliwell. With her two sisters, Prue and Phoebe, Piper used “the power of three” to vanquish evil in all of its myriad of forms. However, before that, she played final girl Jennifer Campbell in the acclaimed cult classic Dr. Giggles.

Portraying Jimmy (the stock boy) alongside Mr. Whipple in a Charmin commercial might not be Adam Savage’s most memorable work, but that gig, along with his work on Sesame Street, made for the humble beginnings of this Sci-Fi superstar. Since those early days, Savage has moved on to work behind the scenes and in front of the camera on MythBusters, Galaxy Quest, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, The Matrix Reloaded, and more.

If you are thinking about attending Fan Expo Philadelphia, you undoubtedly recognize Michelle Hurd from her portrayal of Raffi Musiker on Star Trek: Picard. But before that epic role, the talented actress could be seen in Blindspot, Ash vs Evil Dead, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and over 50 other TV shows, including Charmed and The O.C. She also appeared in over a dozen films, including one of our favorite guilty pleasures, Hulu’s Bad Hair.

Whatever your feelings are about Jack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, you can’t deny the unstoppable-force-of-nature aspect that Sofia Boutella brings to her roles. If The Mummy would have focused on Ahmanet, we might be enjoying a score of films from the Dark Universe. And has there ever been an assassin as terrifying as Gazelle from Kingsman: The Secret Service? If you can’t wait for Fan Expo Philadelphia, you can watch Boutella in the upcoming star-studded Argylle.

Jason Lee is a solid go-to for Kevin Smith. He was in Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl, Clerks II, Cop Out, and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. He also was in My Name Is Earl, Raising Hope, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Underdog. But we bet you didn’t know before pursuing acting, Lee was a pro skateboarder for 7 years.
