MADiSON ViOLETT is a fiercely talented Los Angeles-based vocalist who is an emerging metal powerhouse. Exclusive Interview with MADiSON ViOLETT

To learn more about MADiSON ViOLETT, Entertaining Options asked her a few questions about her influences, her musical background, and more.

Who are your heroes and musical influences? Which artists inspire you?
Definitely female-fronted alt/metal artists such as Amy Lee of Evanescence, Hayley Williams of Paramore, and Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox. My sound is a nice blend of 2000s alt/alt metal and 2020s metalcore, so these artists play a big part in what I write. More importantly, it’s really cool seeing their success in such a male-dominated genre and making waves in the industry like they currently are. As a little girl, it was harder for me to see myself doing what I do because of the stigma of loud women in metal and rock, but these women stood as reminders that my dreams are possible. That representation was very crucial for me and my current goals.

What is your musical background?
I’ve been doing music for as long as I can remember. I’m very grateful to have a supportive family who helped me pursue anything I put my mind to, so I began at the age of three with vocal lessons, vocal/dance recitals, and musical theatre. From there, I knew I wanted to keep chasing making art and sharing it with the world for the rest of my life, and as I grew older, I didn’t let go of that dream. I continued performing and wanted to begin learning guitar so I could start writing my own music, so I joined a rock-adjacent studio that helped me connect with other students with similar goals. I dabbled in programs where I learned how to play in a band and eventually ended up in a group where I wrote some original music and had professional performing experience. We eventually ended up growing apart, but I didn’t let that stop me. I began writing some more, and in an environment where I was able to write anything I wanted, I began exploring genres and styles I loved without any creative restriction or confinement. From there, I kickstarted my solo project, MADiSON ViOLETT.

On top of that I’m a pre-law and music student at UCLA.

Which is your favorite part of music? Writing? Recording? Performing? Something else?
I love the writing process since that’s my art, but I also love live performances. It’s my current goal to hop on a big tour/festival with artists I love and go around to share live music with the world. 

Do you have any other creative pursuits besides music? Did you do theater? Do you journal? Write poetry? Draw?
100% I’m an artist and total nerd all around. I love creative writing (I’m for sure going to publish a novel someday), illustrating comic art, acting, and theatre. I was an inducted International Thespian at my high school for musical theatre, and I used to do a little bit of acting in commercials (I want to start getting into the TV/film industry again someday lol). If I had the opportunity to be in a movie or series, I would jump on it without question. 

Do you play any instruments?
I’m primarily a vocalist, but I also play guitar, bass, and ukulele.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to do what you do?
The thing about making art in today’s world is that you have to work with constant persistence. Just keep pushing, no matter how far the light at the end of the tunnel seems. I’m a baby artist myself and I am nowhere near my ultimate goal, but just this push since I started has helped me achieve some awesome opportunities I wouldn’t have had without it. That goes for writing, social media, live performances, etc.

In addition, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it or that your dreams are invalid. Do you have a dream or a goal? Go for it, work for it, don’t let anyone stop you. It’s hard work, it’s grueling, it’s very, very frustrating some days, but you just have to keep your dreams in your sight at all times. Prove the people who doubted you wrong, but more importantly, prove to yourself that nothing is impossible.

MADiSON ViOLETT Reveals Why She Wrote ‘NIGHTMARES’

MADiSON ViOLETT’s latest song is an aggressive slash of focused rage spawned from the artist’s own inner conflicts. She told Entertaining Options that “NIGHTMARES” was about confronting obsessive/intrusive thoughts and how they impact your thoughts and life.

“I have anxiety and OCD,” she stated. “I wanted to explore the feeling of an obsession or the feeling like you’re in a ‘nightmare,’ something that haunts your brain constantly and you can’t seem to escape it no matter what you do. I want this song to exist as a reminder for other people feeling the same thing, and to let them know they’re not alone in their battle.”
