We first met the adorable giant panda named Hu Hu at the end of 2024 when a fictionalized version of Jackie Chan (played by Jackie Chan) adopted the rare creature at an island paradise called the Noah Zoo in Panda Plan. The riotous action-comedy targeted family audiences and featured everything from bumbling bad guys and murderous mercenaries to ridiculous predicaments and a raging rhinoceros. The film was underpinned by Jackie’s trademark fighting style and drizzled with heart.

This Friday, April 17, audiences will be treated to the sequel: Panda Plan 2: The Magical Tribe. While this movie is billed as a direct sequel to Panda Plan, you don’t need to watch the original to get up to speed. All you need to know is that Jackie Chan has adopted a rare panda that he deeply cares for. Actually, even if you watched the original, you might be caught a little off guard by how quickly this film jumps into the story.

After a brief dream sequence, the movie opens with Jackie traveling to a panda conservation base with his beloved Hu Hu. The radio in his vehicle reports a bizarre celestial anomaly and reveals that a satellite has found evidence of an indigenous tribe that has never interacted with the civilized world. In fact, even with modern technology, the gateway to this lost village seems impossible to find.

A primitive tribe emerges from the jungle and attacks Jackie’s vehicle. There is a flash of light, an explosion of butterflies, and Jackie is the only one of his party left. When he runs out to check on Hu Hu, he finds her waddling away. Unable to catch up, Jackie soon finds himself lost in another world, the world of The Magical Tribe. And that’s when the adventure begins.

After a frenzied wild boar hunt, Hu Hu and Jackie are captured. When the dust has settled — and the mud has been washed away — Hu Hu is revealed to be a giant panda (not a wild boar). The tribe believes she is a sacred creature who is destined to save them from a horrific catastrophe. Jackie is declared the Messenger, and he begins training Hu Hu in a valiant attempt to save this primitive civilization. Unfortunately, not everyone is content with having the fate of the tribe in the hands of an outsider. Besides fulfilling the prophecy, Jackie must battle those who wish to see him fail.

Panda Plan 2 is a chaotic fairy tale filled with a generous assortment of fantastical characters — some have wondrous powers or traits, while others are just absurdly amusing or bizarre. It is a high-energy romp where unlikely heroes must overcome seemingly impossible odds to save a village of extraordinary people from impending doom. The film explores themes of hope and unity while frequently devolving into frenetic slapstick action, proving Jackie Chan is still a master of physical comedy. Pure Panda-monium!!!

Opening on Friday, April 17, Well Go USA Entertainment’s Panda Plan 2: The Magical Tribe is a maelstrom of comic mayhem. Although the film often moves at a breakneck pace, ultimately it is filled with heart and offers a wonderful message that makes it a thrilling cinematic excursion for young families. The Weibo Award-winning film (“Anticipated Film of the Year”) was written by Keyang Pan and directed by Derek Hui. It stars Jackie Chan, Ma Li, Shan Qiao, Yang Yu, Yinglu Wang, Zidong Zhang, and, of course, Hu Hu.
