Do you remember the first time you heard Shania Twain? If you’re like me, her warm and robust vocals unleashed a torrent of butterflies in your stomach, giving you all the feels. Get ready to experience that intoxicating surge of excitement again.

Laetitia Sam was born in Bern, Switzerland. She began singing at just 5 years old. After school, she honed her talents as a hotel lounge singer in Dubai. Her musical tastes range from R&B and rap to pop and pop country. Plus, she has Swiss, American, Austrian, and Sicilian elements in her music, as well. The result is a unique elixir of influences that the songwriter has whirled together to craft a sound that is at once nostalgic and new. Her sultry tones resonate with an exhilarating purr that has a crisp and polished pep, making Laetitia Sam a contender for country pop diva of the year… in 2024.

That’s right, 2024. Because, right now, if you search for Laetitia Sam, you won’t find any music online. The artist has intentionally removed all of her songs from the internet. But her multitude of fans (she calls them “Samers”) don’t have to worry. Laetitia Sam is just preparing for the next and biggest phase of her career to date.

Laetitia Sam’s upcoming nine-song album takes a cue from Adele and Taylor Swift. It reaches deep into her own struggles and triumphs to create an empowering anthemic collection of music. Throughout the album, the artist recalls the sting of toxic relationships, the soul-crippling pain of abandonment, and the exuberance of reclaimed strength. To deliver her artistic vision with precision and purpose, Laetitia Sam worked with Hayden Maringer. Hayden is multitalented artist and producer who has worked with artists, such as Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato, The Band Perry, Bebe Rexha, TLC, and more.

The artist was kind enough to share a sneak listen to her upcoming music. I was immediately hooked. Her songs are exactly what her publicist promised. Laetitia Sam is a gifted and passionate vocalist who is releasing a refreshingly diverse pop country project that has real star-making potential.

Between her hectic schedule of traveling, taking in the sights, and attending celebrity events, Laetitia Sam graciously agreed to answer a few questions about her upcoming album, what inspires and empowers her, and what message she has for her fans and followers. She offered far more insight than I could have ever hoped. So sit back, read, and enjoy. When you’re done, follow the social media accounts of this soon-to-rise star and be one of the first American Samers.

“My first instrument is my voice,” Laetitia began. She also learned piano at a young age. However, now that she is building a career in music, she is picking up another instrument. “I’m working on learning guitar to help me speak the same languages as the other artists I work with.”

Laetitia Sam traveled to California for the first time in September 2023 to work with Hayden Maringer on her debut album. Hayden helped her recognize key cultural differences regarding how music is perceived in America.

“I learned that to be an artist is a real job. In Europe, we don’t really have the same idea of the artist’s work. It’s more like a hobby,” she said. “Hayden introduced me to huge musicians and artists, like Ginny Luke, Cain Daniel, and Brooke Butler, who worked on my album.”

Each musician taught Laetitia Sam a little about what it meant to be a professional artist in America. Her unforgettable moments involved watching Hayden and all the artists coming together in the same studio to work with her on her album.

“You know, I come from Switzerland, and it was like a dream come true,” she shared. “I’m so grateful that I was able to live those moments. I can’t wait for more of them!”

While Laetitia Sam co-wrote all the songs on her debut album with Hayden, every one of them started with her. “Every song I wrote is based on my own personal stories or stories that I’ve heard in life. I really wanted to share a message, to tell a story so that every listener could feel connected and feel supported by my sounds.”

“The first goal was to do the kind of music I’m really passionate about,” she continued. “Pop country music is definitely a real passion in my life. I’ve been a big fan of pop music since I was 5. And I’ve made pop/rap music too. But you know, I live on a farm with my horses, and all my friends listen to country music. Every time we spend time together, they are listening to artists like Shania Twain and Blake Shelton. Just for fun, my brother said to me, ‘Oh, you need to sing country songs, you have such a voice for that.’ So for a few moments, I was just thinking, ‘Mmh, why not?!’ But I knew I needed to keep the pop music part, too.”

Her brother was right. Laetitia Sam’s voice cuts through the listener like a warm knife through butter, reaching the heart and soul. It connects in a meaningful and passionate way that is a crucial element in pop country music.

“Oh, that’s so kind of you to say. I’m just so grateful that you have felt that type of excitement,” she responded. “You know, I realized that my voice can bring happiness to people and I really want them to know that they are not alone. I share my stories to inspire people, and if my stories can help them elevate themselves, then I have achieved one of my life goals.”

Another aspect that Laetitia Sam had to master was recording her songs to sound “American.” When you listen to her speak, you hear a beautiful, melodic rhythm that is enchanting, but not typical of the United States heartland. However, when she sings, you’d swear Laetitia Sam bleeds red, white, and blue. There’s a moment in her upcoming single, “My Turn,” when she shouts, “Come on, let’s go!” and visions of hopping into a pickup and racing down a dusty road to a bonfire fill your mind. She sounds effortlessly American.

“That’s a huge compliment for me. It would be a lie if I said it happened without effort,” she confessed. “I learned English when I was a child, so that helps me a lot, for sure. But I need to thank Hayden Maringer because sometimes, we recorded the same word over 50 times to be sure it sounded ‘American.'”

If you follow Laetitia Sam on Instagram, you will see all her amazing adventures. You can watch her live the dream every day with stories that range from visiting popular tourist destinations to attending star-studded Hollywood events. She’s getting the full experience — learning what it’s like to be both an American and a celebrity — and she’s sharing it with her ever-growing legion of Samers.

“There are a lot of things that I love about America and American people. The first thing I would like to say is there are so many open-minded people here. They are so friendly and they talk to everybody with a smile.”

Her recent Instagram posts include pictures and stories from her visit to the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden for its seasonal Lightscape event. Last month, Laetitia Sam attended the 12th annual Lady in Red gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The event honored five incredible women — Sheila Frazier (actress), Pamela Bakewell (businesswoman), Beverly Todd (actress), Tige Charity (founder), and Renee Lawless (actress) — while raising funds for students in foster care.

“It was so inspiring to see women achieving a lot of beautiful goals,” she reflected. “I met some of the honorees, and I would like to thank Mrs. Gail Gibson — she’s the president of MIMPA (the Multicultural International Motion Picture Association) — who welcomed me and introduced me to this event. I didn’t get to meet Renee Lawless, but this woman is such an inspiring, powerful person. Her energy is so high. I was so impressed with her work and everything she’s done so far. This event was an inspiration for my future.”

Besides being an artist, Laetitia Sam is a role model. By example, she shows how essential confidence is. And she thinks it is important to understand that how you look is not what’s keeping you from achieving your goals.

“A few years ago, I walked the catwalk at the Tour Eiffel in Paris with Laura Brioschi, a plus-size model in Europe. It definitely helps my career to be confident about my look. It’s not really about how I am shaped, but how I feel in front of the world. Confidence doesn’t have a shape. It’s only about the energy.”

“Your story can define the roads you can take for sure. But you aren’t stuck in that place,” she reminded. “So be creative and create your own path. If the roads you have in front of you don’t suit you, add more roads in your life.”

When asked who inspires and empowers her, Laetitia Sam replied, “The little things in life can empower me. It doesn’t need to be extraordinary to elevate my energy. I can find little details in life that add water to my mill in terms of energy and inspiration. In terms of people, for sure my mom empowers me because she has been my pillar and helps me every day to be a better version of myself. As far as artists and celebrities, I can definitely say Demi Lovato for her strength of mind, Beyoncé for her shows, and Scylla for his poetic texts. But I could list a lot of artists who have inspired me in a lot of different ways.”

Besides being an artist, Laetitia Sam is a businesswoman. She is passionate about learning new things and how she can use them to elevate herself. In closing, she offered the following advice: “We can achieve everything in life… but not alone. The first thing you need to achieve your goals is to surround yourself with the right people. I had this amazing opportunity. I got to do what I love to do in life: creating and singing in the USA with amazing artists. So a huge thank you to them!”

Laetitia Sam’s first single from her upcoming release is called “My Turn.” It will be available on February 13, 2024.
