Megan Moroney’s voice is a dark honey. It’s intoxicating nectar that drips from her tongue with a robust flavor that is bold, rich, and impossibly sweet. Her latest song, “I’m Not Pretty,” is the follow up to her platinum-certified “Tennessee Orange,” a track about falling for a guy who isn’t a fan of your team.

“I’m Not Pretty” is the opening track to Moroney’s debut album Lucky (Sony Music Nashville/Columbia Records), which was released at the end of spring. Megan co-wrote the track with Ben Williams, Mackenzie Carpenter, and Micah Carpenter. It takes a deep dive, examining the all-too-common practice of girls hating on other girls just because they’ve fancied the same guy.

The colorful video offers a lighter look at two quartets of friends. One group is obsessed with uncovering every single flaw Megan Moroney has, whether real or imagined. The other is too busy living their best life to be pulled into the drama.

“I’ve had a creative vision for the song since I wrote it, and I am so excited that I was able to co-direct the music video,” Moroney stated in a press announcement. “I casted my best friends in real life to be in it, and thought it was really important to portray the difference in the nice girls that seem to mind their own business and the mean girls who spend all of their time tearing down others. Moral of the story: nice girls always win! I hope my fans love the video and it continues to become the empowering anthem it is.”

Jeff Johnson (Lainey Wilson, Carrie Underwood) co-directed the “I’m Not Pretty” video with Moroney. He expressed, “Being able to work side by side with Megan and having her co-direct with me was seriously so much fun. From the initial concept, to building a treatment, acting in it, performing in it, editing, and sitting in on our color session, Megan was a part of this video every step of the way. She saw it through from start to finish, which I really loved. We both aimed to make this video funny, clever, and quirky that her fans can have fun with and laugh while watching it.”

When it was released, Lucky was added to Rolling Stone’s “The Best Albums of 2023 So Far.” list. It also won praises from People and landed in the Top 10 on Billboard’s “Top Country Albums” chart. At the 2023 CMT Music Awards, Megan won “Breakthrough Female Video of the Year” with “Tennessee Orange.” The song has also earned the rising star three nominations for the 35th Annual MusicRow Awards: “Breakthrough Artist-Writer of the Year,” “Breakthrough Artist of the Year,” and “Song of the Year.”

Recently, Moroney wrapped up a tour with Brooks & Dunn. However, Megan’s “The Lucky Tour,” kicks off in New York City at The Bowery Ballroom on September 20 and continues into December, taking the artist on a coast-to-coast with over two dozen stops.
