Blusher

Lauren Coutts, Jade Ingvarson-Favretto, and Miranda Ward of Blusher

Blusher is a pop trio that hails from Melbourne, Australia and has released its highly anticipated debut EP, Should We Go Dance? (Atlantic Records/Warner Music). The EP is a joyous effervescent excursion into pulsating pop that delivers more tingles than a top ASMR video.

“Our debut EP feels like the ultimate night out with your friends. It’s packed with grit, glitter, confidence, and chaos. Each track correlates to a different part of the night; getting ready together, crush confessions in the bathroom, and yelling with your friends in the middle of the dance floor. Should We Go Dance? encapsulates the wonderful range of emotions that we put on full display within female friendships.”

Each member was a solo artist before joining Blusher, so Miranda Ward, Lauren Coutts, and Jade Ingvarson-Favretto are all comfortable playing a variety of instruments and taking over lead vocals during the band’s live shows. Additionally, Miranda, Lauren, and Jade are equally capable of writing and producing their own music. Blusher’s debut single, an energetic track called “Softly Spoken,” was released less than a month after the band got together, yet it was strong enough to get the girls signed to Atlantic Records/Warner Music Australia and Powerhouse Management.

“When we first met, we found we shared a love for hard-hitting, dancey pop, sparkly synths, and drum machines. We all get nostalgic over the same deep cuts by Robyn, Kesha, LCD Soundsystem, and MGMT.”

When people listen to Miranda, Lauren, and Jade’s music, the girls hope they get caught up in the excitement of the moment. “We want people to feel grounded in the pulsing bass lines, pulled by the pace of the chopped breaths, and energized by the euphoric synths. We all sing, and we love to experiment with our vocals. We laugh, yell, chant, and turn our voices into production elements. There was a lot of laughing and dumb jokes involved, and also a lot of experimentation.”

Most of this EP was created in Lauren Coutts’ bedroom over tea and spilled secrets. While Blusher’s music is a true collaboration of spirits and abilities, if the girls were to assign each other roles, Lauren would be the “head chef of production,” Jade would be the “vocal melody machine,” and Miranda would hold it all together with her driving bass lines.

The latest single is an exhilarating pop anthem called “Limelight” that focuses on the point of the night when drinks pour, secrets spill, the dance floor becomes a confessional, and unbreakable bonds are formed.

“This song started from a bass line while we were channeling the Black-Eyed Peas. We were writing together in Lauren’s bedroom on a Friday night, and after a few hours, decided to take the advice of our own lyrics and go out for a drink and a dance, mid-session.”

Blusher’s debut EP is called Should We Dance?. It features “Softly Spoken,” “Dead End ,” “Backbone ,” “Limelight,” and “Hurricane Chaser.”
